Why She Hides

Why She Hides

Family secrets, the child lied.
She learned that feeling she must hide.
Her Daddy died, not really her own,
In her short life, he was merely on loan.
A ‘real’ Dad suddenly on the scene,
A hardworking man, he was rarely mean.
A real Father with a wife and family of his own,
Another Daddy, for the child, merely on loan.
Her namesake’s Mother alive and well,
To this Gram who loved her, lying was pure hell.
A Mother’s love she did not know.
The little child’s soul needed it so.
Things exploded when the drinking began.
Deep within herself, the child ran.
A safe and very private place,
Her soul could sob, no need to hide her face.
She knew well emotional and physical pain.
Her soul borne tears fell like rain.
Not one tear ever shed for eyes to see,
Abused, but strong and silent, she would be.
This child existed in the world out there,
With knowledge of all the truth to share.
Aware her fate if anything was revealed,
In fear, quite alone, her lips were sealed.
